PERMANENT EXHIBIT GALLERY
This exhibit is the cornerstone of the American Journey Galley and will tell the story of our nation’s evolution.

It will include new research and perspectives, providing visitors an opportunity to return to it with family and friends.

LOBBY
As our visitor’s first impression, this space offers a constant flow of engaging features that bring people together. The lobby creates a sense of belonging, a first point of discovery to connect people to the American journey they will experience.

ROTATING EXHIBIT
Offering new exhibits throughout the year, this exhibit space offers new stories and themes to explore. Offering the opportunity to build new audiences and cultivate conversations that affect our community.

LEARNING & DISCOVERY CENTERS
Three flexible spaces are the heart of audience programming in the Gallery. Special workshops, school group activities, panel discussions and interpretive demonstrations are all occasions for visitor engagement.

COLLECTIONS
Preservation of museum artifacts is of utmost importance. Opportunities to display newly acquired or rarely displayed pieces are critical to our exhibits as well as sharing items in our collection with other institutions of learning.

EXHIBIT AREAS
Within the permanent exhibit, focused cultural themes, explorations in storytelling, and the shaping of modern US society are emphasized.

LIBRARY
Housing a digital archive, along with primary sources, books and materials, the library is a special space for researchers and history enthusiasts to discover even more about the early American journey.

GARDENS
Beautiful native flowers and plants in outdoor gardens give visitors quiet spaces to celebrate, reflect, heal and recharge.

DONOR WALL
Located in the lobby, this wall stewards and thanks donors for their support, while also creating a sense of community and shared purpose. The donor wall celebrates the impact of giving and encourages others to support the Frontier Culture Museum.

For thirty-five years, the Frontier Culture Museum of Virginia has guided millions of visitors to explore America’s origins. Now, we are constructing the American Journey Gallery to elevate the stories of triumphs and challenges that created this national adventure we are on together.

Recognizing the need for an inspirational center of activity, the Commonwealth is funding the construction of our 40,000 square foot building. With donors like you, we are raising $5 million to complete our partnership with the Commonwealth of Virginia.
